I came across this article on Internet Safety and thought I’d pass it along, since we’ve been talking about this topic a lot on EP and in the blog. Some good info in here for parents of tech-savvy kids.

And by the way, if you have any other good Internet Safety tips, please pass them along!

Any parent should understand that it is impossible to block violence, porn, social networking websites if your child want them. There are different softwares for such thing but they will work until certain point but kids a so tech savvy these days that they will probably find the way around. Parents should educate their children in such a way that parents can sleep well knowing that their kids will not do anything stupid and are safe.
As for any technological solutions, those are great to block any UNWANTED (mostly by the kid) content.

I agree that it is a good practice to leave the computer in the family room; this way you can keep a check on what the children are doing on the computer. Also the children will not be able to get on sites that can lead them into trouble. Thanks for sharing this site for teens because I can use this myself.

I have resigned myself to the fact that there is no way that I can block Myspace on my computer. There are so many cheats, etc. that my son finds to get around. I have Integrity.com as a filter. Any solutions or suggestions, other than monitoring his activity?

    Thank you

Keep the computer in the main room of the house, if at all possible! I learned about this the hard way. My 16 y.o. son was up all night on the computer and wouldn’t get up for school in teh morning, so I took it out of his room. Problem solved!
